Teaching Football in South Africa

When you have a passion for sport, South Africa is the perfect location to volunteer as a coach abroad because South Africans LOVE sport! The country has produced some exceptional athletic heroes who have inspired countless get involved in local teams and leagues and perfect their craft.

As a volunteer coach in the townships, you'll become an important connection for young South Africans to develop not only skills in the sport but also a motivation for life. Without these volunteer programs staffed by young people seeking to trainer overseas, the township kids would have hardly any chances for play and games.

Trying to Turn Around the Townships

The term township usually called a frequently underdeveloped urban living room. The expression in South Africa originates from the late 1800's until the end of Apartheid in the 1990's and clarified areas reserved for non whites. The age of Apartheid specifically was very tumultuous for its communities as legislation formally downgraded their standing and legal standing in society. This generated huge swathes of inequality in all areas of life such as housing, instruction power and schooling. As a result, the Townships became areas connected with poverty and high levels of crime.

However since the passing of Apartheid from the 1990's the South African Government was working incredibly difficult to decrease those disparities and rehabilitate land owners in these areas and things are gradually changing. Sporting programmes for young people are among the methods in which the country is slowly rebuilding its esteem within the communities.

More Than Just a Game

For some kids, soccer in particular provides an important escape from poverty and associated problems. Spending time on the soccer pitch keeps many from getting involved in crime or drugs and away from violent gangs. As a volunteer trainer abroad you'll play an integral part in building the kids self esteem, pride and team skills in addition to obviously keeping them healthy and fit.

The volunteers that opt to mentor abroad are seen as significant (albeit temporary) members of the communities, that play a very important part in the wider education of the children within these areas. Want to read the website
